Lamivudine is a synthetic cytidine analog and a widely used nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) for the treatment of HIV-1 infection and chronic hepatitis B (HBV). It inhibits viral replication by incorporating into viral DNA and causing chain termination. It is one of the most extensively studied and prescribed antiretrovirals and is a core component of many WHO-recommended ART regimens.
The 150 mg strength is used in twice-daily antiretroviral therapy (ART) or in weight-band pediatric dosing, and is often co-administered with zidovudine, abacavir, or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.
